Frequesntly Asked Questions

Hair grows in 3 stages and it can take up to 4 waxing treatments before all of the hair is on the same growth cycle, thus all come out together. Your first wax may not remove all the hair, it may last only one week, it may last up to three – it just depends on your own genetics, how recently and often you’ve shaved, and how well you do at preparing the skin before the wax and taking care of the skin between your treatments.

Don’t be discouraged if your hair doesn’t stay gone too long the first few times. The more you wax the longer it will last. However, if your last hair removal was shaving, your first wax post shaving will not last as long. Please don’t shave in between waxing appointments!

A Brazilian wax removes the hair in the pubic region all the way to the rear.  Unlike the bikini wax, you are able to go completely bare down there.  However, you may opt to leave a small patch of hair if desired.

During a Manzilian wax, we remove all of the hair from the male bikini area, the scrotum, and the bootay strip. The Manzilian does not include the glutes, but will happily add that to your service if you wish.

We’ll be honest; it’s not the most comfortable experience especially the first time.  We are removing a lot of coarse hair during the first visit – especially if you’ve been shaving. With repeat visits (including your very next visit), discomfort from waxing is greatly diminished.  During return visits, there will be less hair to remove, thus less pain.  You may also take ibuprofen about 30 min prior.

For the best results, we strongly recommend three weeks of hair growth or for hair to be ¼ inches long at the time of your treatment.  If the hair is too short, we’ll have to ask you to reschedule.  Proper hair length will allow our estheticians to perform the best service with lasting results.  Facial hair does not need to be ¼ inches long to perform services.

It is recommended that you return every three-five weeks for body and Brazilian waxing.  For facial waxing, we recommend re-booking within three weeks.  This timing is based on the 3 stages of hair growth.
Please note: The moment you shave or use Nair, you become a wax virgin again. Your third-time’s-a-charm waxing cycle restarts and you must wait until your third wax for the perfect waxing experience. Patience is key!

After your treatment we apply oil formulated to soothe the skin. You may be red for about 30 min, following your treatment.  If the redness does not go away, applying some hydro-cortisone cream can help.  Do not tan or swim after your service.  After 48 hours it’s highly recommended that you exfoliate twice a week using our ingrown hair products.

Unfortunately some people experience ingrown hairs due to hair texture and growth patterns.  It’s important to exfoliate in conjunction with using a product designed to eliminate ingrown hair.  Our estheticians are trained to recommend an optimal aftercare routine.

Gentle exfoliation will allow for the dead skin that may be trapping the hair shaft to come to the surface of the skin.  If you have a low pain tolerance, take an aspirin or ibuprofen 30 min prior to you appointment to reduce discomfort.  Also, wear comfy undies, you don’t want super tight clothing irritating your freshly waxed sweet spot!

We utilize an all-natural, custom blended hard wax (strip free) that was designed with comfort and accuracy in mind.  Clients with sensitive skin can enjoy a waxing service with minimal discomfort due to our expertly trained team, and amazing wax.

Yes, possibly. The upper lip, back and chest are all areas that are prone to breakouts. If you have a tendency towards ingrown hairs and irritation from shaving, you are more likely to have the same reactions waxing, although dramatically decreased. To minimize skin reactions, you MUST use proper home care and come to get waxed on a regular schedule.  All in all, come in like clockwork, every 3-5 weeks, exfoliate your skin and moisturize. This will help set you up for waxing success!

If you are using Retin-A, Accutane, glycolic acid or other topical skin exfoliation medications at the time of your appointment (or within the last four months).  Using these chemicals prior to waxing can cause the skin to lift.  Waxing following a nasty sunburn or laser peel is also not recommended.

Do not get extremely sweaty, or sunbathe for at least 24- 48 hours after your treatment. Tanning after your treatment can cause irritation and severe burns.

  • No sex, swimming pool, hot tubs or sauna for 24 hours after waxing.
  • Keep hair follicles clean by showering immediately after exercise.
  • Apply hair inhibitor ampules and ingrown hair serum.
  • Gently exfoliate 2-3 days a week with the body polish kit and gloves.

Awesome. We can work around your piercing if you aren’t able to remove it. The cool thing about our wax is that it only adheres to hair.

Absolutely not!  Wax Unique is committed to providing a clean and sanitary environment.  We take our No Double Dipping Policy seriously and always use a clean applicator when dipped into wax.  After the wax is applied to your skin, the applicator is discarded and a new applicator is used.

Rates do not include gratuity, but are greatly appreciated. Treat yourself and purchase homecare for continued success. We love your referrals and online reviews on Google, Yelp, and Facebook.

Pre-Tan FAQS

  • Exfoliate!  If you are someone who exfoliates regularly, then exfoliate 24 hours before your session.  If you are not someone exfoliates regularly, exfoliate twice 12-24 hours before your session.  This ensures that your tan is not being applied to dead skin cells that will fall off in a day or two!
  • Showering 4 hours before your session is acceptable if you cannot do it the evening before, but not right before the appointment, as your skin will remain hydrated from the shower and not give the best results.
  • Coming right from the gym is NOT recommended as the sweat will create a barrier
  • Waxing and spa services (pedicure, massage, facial) should be done before your spray tan (2 days prior is my recommendation) as the oils can leave a barrier
  • Do not use deodorant, makeup, perfume, or moisturizers (including the moisture strip on a razor) the day of your tanning session
  • Bring loose fit clothing and flip flops (avoid skinny jeans, leggings, tight fitting shirts, etc.)
  • You may tan in the undergarment of your choice (preferably a dark color)
  • Ladies may tan topless. Bathing suits and underwear also work well.
  • Have your hair back high and tight on top of your head, if possible
  • If you are pregnant, have respiratory issues, diabetes, or allergies; please consult with a physician prior to your sunless session.  We are happy to provide a list of ingredients for the solution we use, just ask ahead of time!

***BRIDES*** We always recommend a trial before your big day. So as you’re booking your makeup and hair, DO NOT FORGET YOUR TAN!

  • Wear loose clothing till after your rinse, a bra is not recommended.
  • We will advice you on the time frame when you can rinse. It is IMPORTANT that you must rinse in the time frame we provide for you. Waiting longer or earlier can adversely affect the color of the tan making it too light or to dark. You will only rinse with water, no soap or ANY product (till 8 hrs after your session). Make sure your face and ears are rinsed as well
  • Don’t be alarmed if you think your spray tan is “washing” down the drain!  That is just the cosmetic bronzer that we use as a guide while spraying you and it is not your tan “washing” away.  Your tan will develop for 24 hours even after your first shower.
  • Do not scrub or use loofahs, washcloths at the time of the rinse.
  • Avoid any activity that will result in sweating and refrain from swimming and getting wet. Working out is not recommended immediately after your spray tan.
  • 8 hrs after your spray tan, you may take a REGULAR shower. Our after care products are recommended, we are happy to advise you on what might work best for you with the products we carry. No moisturizers or creams until AFTER your shower.
  • Please do not allow your pet to lick or jump on you
  • Spa Treatments are not recommended after your airbrush tan (ex: massage, facial, pedicure)
  • Dove products are NOT RECOMMENDED as they can strip your tan. Swimming will fade your tan. Please refer to the section “Products to Avoid”
  • Moisturize! Use lotion twice a day after you shower to extend the life of your tan.
  • If you have any issues with your tan, please do not hesitate to contact us! We want to make sure you absolutely LOVE your tan!

Please refrain from the following products, as they are known to fade and ruin a sunless tan:

  • Loofahs, washcloths, baby oil, mineral oil, massage oils, bug sprays, anti aging products that exfoliate, Dove products (creates skin barriers and your tan will not take) alcohol based toners, astringents (cleansing agents). Any products containing AHA’s or BHA’s or RETIN, accutane and salicylic acids can cause issues. Avoid long swims in pools and oceans as the chlorine and salt water can cause fading (bromine can cause fading).
  • A spray tan does not protect your from the sun, so make sure you use a sunscreen (Beach Bum or Coppertone Sport).  Please consult with us if you are not sure if a product is safe for your tan.
  • Some medications as well as woman menstrual cycles can effect the tan as well.
  • Remember, that the spray tan is on the outer layer of the skin; anything that exfoliates will remove the tan.
  • Our after care recommendations are top of the line products. All are formulated to work with sunless tans in addition to be used for daily, soft healthy skin
  • We offer a Body Lotion, Tan Extender, Self Tanning Mousse, and even some scrubs for next time prep.
  • You will see a huge difference in how your tan lasts and fades when you use the proper products that are made specifically for sunless tanning. These products are made with the purest ingredients such as 100% Coconut Oil, Moroccan Argan Oil, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Apple Fruit Extracts.

Vaginal Steam FAQs

The V-steam is a modernized version of a centuries old Korean tradition called Chai Yok. It may also be referred to as yoni steams or bajos in South or Central American cultures. During the treatment, you are seated over a mixture of steaming herbs while wearing a robe to trap in the steam so the steam delivers the herbal medicine straight to the source.

YES! For men it’s called an A-STEAM.

Men, don’t think we forgot about you. Our A-Steam for men benefits your down under region.  This ancient healing practice has been used for thousands of years and has extraordinary benefits to relieve pain and inflammation, hemorrhoids, prostate health, erectile dysfunction, impotence, metabolism, immune system, stress, or simply for a refresher.

Vaginal steaming is used to maintain female reproductive health and treat a wide variety of gynecological and digestive problems including:  menstrual cramps, infertility, irregular or heavy menstrual cycles, amenorrhea, endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, miscarriage, postpartum healing, chronic vaginal infections, symptoms of menopause, hemorrhoids, IBS, bloating and more.

The tissues of the vagina are especially porous and absorbent, and the warmth of the steam works to soften and open them. Often women have painful periods due to accumulations of incompletely flushed menstrual fluids encrusted in the membranes of the uterine wall. So you can imagine if you want to clean something really well, you heat it and steam it. The steam combined with the medicinal herbs provides a very healing and comforting effect. When the herbs are placed in hot water, their medicinal properties, including volatile oils, are released and carried to the surface of your skin and to the inside of the vagina where they are absorbed into the bloodstream, and ultimately into the cervix and uterus.

Most everyone who tries it loves it. It’s so comforting, physically and emotionally. During the steam you will feel a warm steam as if your bottom half is sitting in a sauna. You will smell the fragrant aroma of the herbal medicine fill the room as your body absorbs the healing medicinal oils. You should leave refreshed and reinvigorated.  Some women notice beneficial results with just one treatment, but often a series of treatments is required. Since the herbal steam works to penetrate the uterus and dredge out any old tissues and blood that were not properly expunged during menstruation, you may notice some discharge following the steam or changes in your next cycle. These are normal cleansing reactions and a good sign that your womb is cleansing.

That depends on your goals and the severity of your complaints. For more chronic or severe complaints more frequent steams up to 3x’s a week may be required, whereas less serious complaints may require fewer steams of once a month. Most conditions will respond to starting with one steam a week for 4 weeks then reducing to a maintenance schedule of 1-2 steams a month then reducing to as needed use.

For example if you have uncomfortable and irregular cycles you may want to come in weekly for a month until your cycle improves and then come the week before your period for maintenance care. Or for postpartum complaints you may want to come in twice a week for 2 weeks to assist in the healing process. For fertility you might want to come in for 2 steams between your period and ovulation.
